This is the Start of the sixth decade (2020-2030) of Sioux City Jr. Musketeers/Metros High School Hockey
The Metros finish the season in second place with a 16-10-0-1-1 record.
The MHSHL enter play this season under the specter of the covid pandemic. The season starts on time, however, there is
a brief three week period when play is suspended in November/December. After that, its full steam ahead. Because many
teams will not be playing the same amount of games, the League goes with percentage based score and stat keeping.
The teams play between 25 and 31 regular season games. Okoboji Mammoths and the Freemont Flyers
both leave the league for this season making for a 12 team league.
After a disappointing third place finish at last year’s State Tournament, the Metros enter this season with the anticipation
of continued success. Returning ten seniors, a host of other well-experienced players and a National Championship
coaching staff; the Metros start this season as one of the League’s potential top teams. Unfortunately, the Metros
struggle along the way to find that perfect balance of offence & defense and finish with a 16-10-0-1-1 record.

Last season Brenden really started to find the net, recording eight goals and six assists as a sophomore. His best outing

Jake “The Snake” Posson
Metros 2018-22

he is all team and plays a complete game from start to finish. This senior season saw him finally crack the varsity line-up
playing in five regular season games and both of the Metros play-off games. He would grab his first varsity goal as a Metro
on February 2nd, 2022 in a win over the Freemont Flyers. He was no stranger to the penalty box but was always there
because of a bone-rattling check that may have been a little high on occasion.
Sioux City Officials
Bob Batcheller Sammy Holzrichter
Metros 1979-83 Metros 2012-16
Local USA Hockey Officials Bob Batcheller and Sammy Holzrichter are back it for another season; this is Bob’s
thirty-third season and Sammy’s eleventh. Bob started with USA Hockey in 1989 working as an IHSHL (now the MHSHL)
linesman and eventually a referee. He also spent twenty seasons working the USHL lines.
Sammy started officiating in 2011 and served as both a player and an official. He would work regular out-of-town high school
and some college club games in addition to this youth game schedule. Sammy was a regular MHSHL official for six season
before moving to Minnesota where he is currently working high school, NAHL and NA3 games.

Drake returns for his final season with the Metros ready to help lead the Metros defensive corps. He would record eleven
goals and nine assists this season. He had Fremont’s number, notching eight goals and seven assists against the Flyers
over the season. This includes a pair of home-ice hat tricks on February 2nd and February 9th. Drake played a much
improved and smarter game on the blueline, recording only thirty penalty minutes, forty-five minutes fewer than last season.
JoJo Hope
Metros 2019-23
JoJo Hope returns this season as a junior and was an integral part of the Metros offence. Not a huge scorer, JJ could move
the puck, setting-up a dozen Metro goals this season, including four in a single game against the Ames Flyers. He would
grab his first varsity goal on February 26th, 2022 in a win over the Lincoln Stars. He would also finish among the top three
Metros Heavy Hitters with thirty-eight penalty minutes.
George Johnson
Metros 2018-22
George Johnson also returns this season and is also slated to help lead the young Metros defensive squad. This season
was a breakout year for the senior defenseman. He would record four goals and sixteen helpers this season. George would
also grab a pair of goals in the post-season first round in a win over the Ames Flyers. He would go on to receive the Metros
Top Defenseman Award. When he hit the ice, Georgie was always having fun-all though he could have showed it more.
Usually one of the first through the hand-shake line and always the first player to offer the officials a sincere nice game –
whether he meant it or not.
Grant Harder
Metros 2021-24
One of the many youngsters this season, the sophomore Grant Harder starts to find the net right away-recording
his first Metros goal in his very first game, a season opening win over the Ames Flyers. His thirty-one points and forty-
eight penalty minutes, placed him among the team’s High Scorers and Heavy Hitters. He would notch seventeen goals,
including a team leading eight game winners and fourteen assists. He recorded three multi-goal games and eight
multi-point games, including a season best, of four points, against the Freemont Flyers. Grant would be honored
with the Metros Playmaker Award this season.

Metros 2020-24
Another youngster breaking in to the varsity ranks is Cash Frigge. He would finish among the Metros High Scorers and
Heavy Hitters. Recording twelve goals for twenty-eight points. He would also record thirty-six penalty minutes. He wasted
no time getting on the varsity score sheet, grabbing three goals and an assist in just his second game of the season, giving the
Metros a Halloween day win over Ames. He would record his season’s best game on February 2nd when he notched a pair of
goals and added five helpers against Freemont.
Karson Fitch
Metros 2021-25
Another freshman this season, Karson Fitch joins the Metros ranks of young scorers. Recording three goals and adding a
dozen assists this season, his fifteen points is a great start for a freshman. One of those assists is a high-lite-reel interception,
rush up the ice and a beautiful pass to Nate Solma for the game winning goal, completing a late in the game three goal
comeback for the win over Cedar Rapids. Carson would go on to win the Metros Rookie of the Year Award this season.
Nate Solma
Metros 2020-24
After a slow start last season, the retuning sophomore Nate Solma is on fire this season; recording twenty-two goals and
fourteen assists; his thirty-six points puts him among the team’s top three scorers. He would grab his first varsity goal
and game-winner, during a season opening win in Ames. He would have eight multi-point games, including a season
best of four goals and an assist against Quad City on November 14th. He would also record four game winning goals.
Nate’s thirty-six points placed the youngster among the League’s top twenty scorers.
Caiden Patrick
Metros 2022-Present
Another freshman this season, Caiden Patrick is the first defenseman in a very long family pedigree of MHSHL
goaltenders. He is fast and big and will make a huge impact with the Metros defensive corps in upcoming seasons.
He played a complete season as a freshman and recorded three goals and six assists.
Did You Know…Caiden’s brother Colin (Metros 2017-20), two uncles; Craig (Metros 1979-82), Ross (Metros 1998-2001)
and his dad, Scott (Metros 1984-88) are all MHSHL goaltenders.
But Wait –There’s More…Scott is the only IHSHL player to be selected as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player and not play in
the Championship game. He is only the second player ever selected and not on the championship team.

returns to its general format with the top eight varsity and the top six JV teams participating in the tournament. The tournament
is a single elimination play and only the third and fourth place consolation game is played in addition to the championship
tilt. Kansas City is again the odds on favorite to win the tournament for a fourth time in a row – the trophy is probably already
back from the engraver.
Quarter-Final Game
4-Metros vs. Lincoln Jr. Stars-3
March 3rd, 2023
The Metros fourth place finish pairs them up with the fifth place Lincoln Stars. After a scoreless first period the Metros would
strike quickly with a red lighter from Noah Graham and Nate Solma penalty shot just forty-five second apart. Nate would
add a second goal near the end of the second giving the Metros go up with a commanding lead. However, five penalties
and three power-play goals keep the Stars in the game. Five minutes into the third, Grant Harder would get the eventual
game winner and Locklin Jackson would stop thirty-four shots sending the Metros to the semi-finals
Semi-Final Game
7-Metros vs. Kansas City Jets-4
March 4th, 2023
This first period is a defensive one, with both goaltenders corralling any and all shots on some terrific offensive attempts
from both of these potentially high scoring offences. The first period ends in a draw and many think that one goal might
win this thing.
However, heavily favored Jets are stunned when Sioux City opens up a three goal lead midway through the second on goals
from Landon Topf, Hunter Echter and Nate Solma. After a Kansas City counter, Blaze Bauer puts the Metros back on to
with a commanding lead to end the second period.
The third period is more Metros; Grant Harder finds the back of the net, Blaze Bauer grabs his second red-lighter of the
game and Cash Frigge adds some salt to the wound. Kansas City continues to play with seemingly no urgency as the game
clock continues to tick. Kansas City would mount a comeback, but it would prove too little too late. Goaltender Locklin
Jackson makes 28 saves, sending the Jets packin’ and the Metros to the Championship game.
Championship Game
5-Metros vs. Des Moines Oak Leafs-4 OT
March 5th, 2023
The fourth seed Metros find themselves facing another giant in the Des Moines Oak Leafs. The Leafs have only lost
four times and finished the season in second place. The Metros have another uphill climb in this contest as well.
The Leafs do strike first, but doesn’t deaden the Metros spirit. Three & half minutes later Grant Harder grabs a loose
puck and ties the game at one each.
This second period it’s the Metros on the board first, with a red-lighter from Nate Solma. Six minutes later JoJo Hope
intercepts an errant pass and gives the Metros a two goal lead. However, the Leafs aren’t going into the night just yet and
cut the lead to one before the second period ends.
Four minutes into the third, Nate Solma buries his second goal of the game; giving the Metros a lead that looks like it
might hold-up. However, the Leafs have different plans; eventually beating the defensive corps twice and tying the game.
That game-tying momentum, carries over in to the OT period, as the Leafs seem to dominate the Metros in the offensive
zone. However, Locklin Jackson is terrific in net and keeps the DM onslaught at bay, including an OT break-away
save on the League’s top scorer. With just three minutes remaining, Nate Solma grabs the loose puck in the defending
zone, skates the length of the ice, splits the defense and beats the Leafs goaltender, giving him a hat-trick and the
Metros a well-deserved MHSHL Championship!!!

This year’s final Tournament is held again in Des Moines and played at the MidAmerican Energy RecPlex. The tournament
format sees the top eight varsity and the top six JV teams making the cut. The tournament is a single elimination play and only
the third and fourth place consolation game is played in addition to the championship tilt. Sioux City wins the league
championship, but expects well deserved competition from the Des Moines Oak Leafs, Omaha Jr. Lancers and the Kansas City Jets.
Quarter-Final Game
4-Metros vs. Ames Jr. Cyclones-0
March 1st, 2024
League champion and first seed Metros open the tourney paired up with the Ames Jr. Cyclones. The Metros start out
hot…recording a pair of goals on the first three shots of the game. Jackson Pinny and Nate Solma get the Metros on the
board and in the driver’s seat. Ryan Hedquist would grab a tally in the second period and Tegan Doleman one in the third
sending the Metros to the semi-finals. Goaltender Cameron Patrick stops all seventeen Cyclone attempts.
Semi-Final Game
1-Metros vs. Kansas City Jets-5
March 2nd, 2023
Sioux City enters the second round against the Kansas City Jets. In what is a re-peat of last year’s semi-final game that saw the
Metros playing spoiler, upsetting the favored Jets and sending them sending them to the finals and an eventual championship.
The revenge-seeking Jets hit the ice and stun the sluggish Metros, grabbing three straight goals in the first. Team Captain Grant
Harder would get the Metros on the board, giving some life to a potential comeback. Unfortunately, the Jets would quickly
counter and the four goal lead seems insurmountable to the Metros as they fail to generate any of their traditional offensive
outbursts. KC would add some salt to the wound in the third and send the tournament favorites to the consolation round.
Consolation Game
9-Metros vs. Waterloo Warriors-1
March 3rd, 2024
The Metros look to bounce-back from yesterday’s uncharacteristic lack-luster contest. Their opponents are the
Waterloo Warriors. This is a must win for the Metros as they look to get back on track as they head to the National
Championships in two weeks.
This game is all Sioux City as they dominate the always tough Waterloo. This time it’s the Metros who jump out
to an early lead, hanging three goals on the Warriors before the period is over. Nate Solma gets the team on the board,
Karson Fitch grabs the eventual game winner and Charlie Egdorf ends the first period onslaught. Waterloo rebounds
early in the second, but that just fuels the Metros offence with goals from Tegan Doleman. Ryan Hedquist, Blaze
Bauer and Hunter Echter. Sioux City throttles back in the third, recording second goals from Teagan and Nate. Karson
and Ryan both record a pair of assists and Nate a single helper, giving them all three point games. Goaltender Cameron
Patrick is nearly flawless, stopping twenty-two Warrior shots.

March 2nd, 2024
This contest sees the Metros taking on the Waterloo Warriors for the second weekend in a row. Last week’s regular season
contests were both close fought the Metros battled to secure the regular season second place spot. Logan Cherkas gives the
Metros the first lead of the game but Waterloo quickly counters three times by the end of the period. The second period is
a defensive battle and the Metros enter the final stanza trailing by a pair of goals. Minutes into the third, Brandon Steffe
would tally giving the Metros a new spark and with just a few minutes remaining, Brody Herman would send the game into
overtime. Unfortunately, a bad angle red-lighter would find its way to the back of the net sending the Metros to the
consolation round.
Consolation Game
4-Metros vs. Des Moines Capitols-3 SO
March 3rd, 2024
Like the varsity, the Metros look to rebound after yesterday’s upset loss. They draw the always tough, Des Moines Capitols

The second stanza is all Sioux City; red-lighters from Ben Deck, Kaden Netley and Demetri Tsiobanos put the team ahead
by two with just one period remaining. The Caps do manage to tie the game and send it to a shoot-out. Second shooter
